'Cardboard Cathedral' (out on March 15th 2019) is the debut album from Lavender Worm, aka Juhani Marjanen. The album follows his EP 'Synchronized Swimming', which received support from Thump, Clash and BBC Radio. 'Cardboard Cathedral' is also the first release on Server Farm, a Helsinki-based record label run by Marjanen.
Marjanen started his musical career in 2009 as part of the skweee-supergroup Yöt, co-producing a total of four releases. Since his solo debut in 2014, he has expanded his field of activity to include the profession of woodworking. There is a similarity in the autonomous, solitary lifestyle of a craftsperson and an electronic music producer and Marjanen believes that both trades ultimately strive for communication. Like his furniture work, 'Cardboard Cathedral' share a similar sensibility of precision and carnivalism. The music revels in oddball stylistic juxtapositions and light-hearted melodies, combining the tropical with the frigid. There is anarchy in its design, but it is always meticulously crafted.
